Internships and volunteering with NICE

E-mail Print PDF

The NICE Internship Programme started in 2004 as one way of replicating the civic education concept to the rest of Malawians in a sustainable manner. The programme is aimed at imparting practical skill and expertise in civic education through the engagement of young professionals who would like to make a career in civic education in Malawi and abroad.

NICE stands to gain from the interns through their ideas and new concepts that they would bring into the organisation. As a learning organisation, interns are allowed to experiment with different civic education approaches in the project. It is further believed that the experience gained through NICE’s engagement will lead to the project interns’ capacity to be improved and enhance their marketability in the civil society job market especially in the governance sector.

Departmental areas that are vacant for internships range from information technology (IT), administration, programs, public relations, accounting and civic education, depending on the prevailing need in the various regions at the time. Alternatively, for those interested in becoming civic educators, NICE offers an opportunity for citizens in the various NICE regions to participate in the project’s civic education activities by becoming  volunteers for the organization.

Under this initiative, the volunteers who must be community residents in the various NICE regions, are then trained and equipped with skills to become civic educators in their communities referred to as either Zone Coordinators (ZCs), Area Civic Education Coordinators (ACECs) or Para-Civic Educators (PCEs).

The Volunteering programme runs for the entire Programme Estimate (PE) period and the Internship programme runs for three months. For more information, go to the www.nicemw.org  website or contact any of  the regions on the back page of this publication.
